IFS

stones of Stonehenge, stacked neatly

Internal Family Systems is a therapeutic approach built on a simple but powerful idea: your mind is made up of many different parts, each with its own feelings, beliefs, and role in protecting you. Some parts might carry old pain or fear, while others work hard to keep that pain from surfacing through control, avoidance, self-criticism, or even numbing out.

Rather than fighting or silencing these parts, IFS enables you to get curious about all of the parts of your mind, understand why they developed, and build a relationship with them from a calm, compassionate core sense of Self.  As that inner relationship deepens, parts that have been stuck in old, protective patterns can finally soften, and the pain they've been carrying can be acknowledged and healed. IFS is gentle, non-pathologizing work and insists that there's no part of you that needs to be gotten rid of, only understood.
